In 1998 the L'Anse Area School Community passed a
millage proposal to fund renovations and the building of an addition between the
existing Elementary and High School Buildings.
In order to reduce the winter tax burden to the taxpayers of Bohemia, Covington,
Duncan, Laird, and L'Anse Townships, the district made the decision to
reintroduce a Summer Tax Collection.
Starting with the 1999 Summer Tax Collection, the Central Office of the L'Anse
Area Schools has collected tax levies for State Education Tax; Non-Homestead
School Operating (originally 18 mills); Debt Retirement Levy (originally 7
mills); Copper Country Intermediate School District voted millage; and two voted
mills for the Copper Country Intermediate School District for Special Education.
Taxes are levied on July 1 of each year and collection takes place at the
Central Office Building of the L'Anse Area Schools. Payments can be made by US
mail, or by stopping at the office on Tuesdays or Thursdays between the hours of
9:00 a.m. and noon or 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m..
